Camshaft working conditions and materials

Mar 23, 2017

Camshaft is a device of a piston engine. Its function is to control the opening and closing movement of the valve. In four-stroke engines, the camshaft is half crankshaft rotational speed (same as the speed of the camshaft and crankshaft in two-stroke engine), but usually the speed remains high, but also great torque, so the design of camshaft high requirements in terms of strength and support, the material is usually quality steel or alloy steel. Because the valve motion law affects motivation and operational characteristics of an engine, camshaft in engine design therefore occupies a very important position in the design process.
